Obituary of Betty Verbuyst
In Loving Memory
With family at her side, Mrs. Betty Verbuyst (nee Scheers) of Delhi, passed away peacefully at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton on Friday, November 15, 2024 in her 83rd year. For 36 years, Betty and her husband Johnnie worked tirelessly side by side on their family tobacco farm. Betty was a devoted and proud member of her community, dedicating her time and energy to serving others. She was an active and valued member of the Catholic Women’s League since 1975, where her faith and commitment shone brightly. Betty was also recognized for her long-standing volunteer work at the Delhi Long-Term Care Centre and the Norfolk General Hospital, where her compassion and selflessness touched countless lives. Her contributions leave a lasting legacy of kindness and service. Betty loved being surrounded by her family. Sunday evenings were her favourite, when the house buzzed with laughter. The living room would fill with chatter as everyone – children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered around. Betty’s heart was full as she witnessed this, seated in her favourite rocking chair. For her, Sundays weren’t just a day of rest – they were a celebration of everything she held dear. Her golden heart was a treasure cherished by all who knew her. She touched lives with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love. Betty had a zest for life, alway finding joy in the little things. She loved trips to the casino with Johnnie and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Beloved wife of 62 years to Johnnie Verbuyst. Loving mother of Debbie Pierssens (Late Lee, 2023) and Brenda Van Laecke (David). Proud grandmother of Ainsleigh (Matt), Hillary (Josh), Scott (Holly), Paige (Mason) and Lauren. Cherished great-grandmother 'Great Betty' of Taylor and Madison. Proud daughter of Martha and the Late Steve Scheers (2006). Dearest sister of Gary Scheers (Mary) and Linda Mayo (Fred).
