Obituary of Claire McElhone

In Loving Memory

Mr. Claire McElhone of Delhi, passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Thursday, September 19, 2024 in his 80th year. Claire spent over five decades behind the wheel, driving trucks with the same dedication he applied to every aspect of his life. Even after his long days on the road, he always made time for the simple pleasures that brought him joy. Whether it was a curling match, a game of Cross-Cribb or cards with family and friends, stopping by the fields to check on the crops he once tended as a young farmer, or sharing a cup of coffee and cracking jokes, he found so much joy in the company of others. His love for the land never waned, and even in his later years, he could often be found walking the fields, appreciating the beauty of the crops and the work of a farmer’s hands. More than anything, Claire loved spending time with his many friends and family members. His friends, family, and neighbours will always remember his warm visits, quick wit, and the way he could make anyone feel welcome and at ease. His sense of humour and love for a good laugh will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Beloved husband of Diane (Harwood) McElhone. Loving father of Steven McElhone, Tammy Gooding (Kevin) and Robin Varnes (Bud). Cherished grandfather of Carter, Sonnie, Jacob, Lauren and Aaron. Dearest brother of Lucile Kamp (John), James McElhone (Late Marva 2023), Leo McElhone (Dorothy), Terry McElhone (Donna) and Murray McElhone. Predeceased by his two brothers: David McElhone and John Charles McElhone (Regina). Also survived by several nieces, nephews and in-laws. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held with Inurnment in Our Lady of LaSalette Cemetery. Memorial Donations to the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation, the LaSalette Area Rural Roots or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada can be made through the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) and will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
