Obituary of Shirley Barker

In Loving Memory

Mrs. Shirley Barker of Delhi passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Thursday, June 13, 2019 in her 93rd year. Shirley was an elementary school teacher for 30 years. She was actively involved in the Delhi United Church as a member of its Board of Trustees, as a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years and as a member of its U.C.W. as well as serving as the President of the U.C.W. Presbyterial. Shirley was on the Delhi Library Board and created the Multicultural Educational Program for Children for the Delhi Tobacco Museum. Shirley's commitment to her community was much appreciated and she was awarded the Delhi Citizen of the Year in 1995. Some of her favourite hobbies were playing bridge, travelling, reading and attending meetings. Former Shirley Bernice Heatherington. Beloved wife of the Late Robert Alvin "Al" Barker. Loving mother of Heather Keast (Garry), Debbie Stone (Late Graham 2009), Diane Barker (Gary Gurbin) and Judy Barker (John Langton). Cherished grandmother of Alex, Sam, J.T. (Dayna), Shelley (Mark) and Jenny and great grandmother of Oliver. Also survived by her sisters-in-law: Marion, Dorothy, Joyce and Betty as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Jack Heatherington (1999) and Bob Heatherington (2012) (Late Pat 2004) and by her in-laws: Paul, Ed, Ted, Ed, Don, Jim and Betty. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (mfh.care) for visitation on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Judy Barker, Rev. Debra Hinksman and Mr. Bill Graham officiating. Inurnment in Delhi Cemetery at a later date.
