Mrs. Rachel DeGroote of Delhi, born in St. Lievens Houtem, Belgium on November 19, 1930, passed away at the Delhi Long Term Care Centre, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in her 93rd year. Lifetime Member of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Catholic Women’s League and the Choir and a Member of the Delhi Belgian Hall and their Ladies Auxiliary and the Delhi Friendship Centre. Former Rachel Celine Van Herzele. Beloved wife of the Late Roger DeGroote (2016). Loving mother of Christine DeLeebeeck (Frank), Lorraine Smith (Harley), David DeGroote (Jenna) and Dennis DeGroote. Cherished grandmother of Renee Smith (Derek), Kevin DeLeebeeck (Niki), Carson Smith (Bri), Danielle Peters (John), Mathew DeLeebeeck (Kate), Dillon DeGroote, Riley DeGroote and Adlen DeGroote, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also survived by her sister-in-law Anita Van Herzele, by several cousins and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents: Livinus Van Herzele (1984) & Germaine D’Hondt (1999), by her two siblings, Simone Masschaele (2009) and Daniel VanHerzele (2017) and by her great-grandson. The family would like to thank the staff at the Delhi Long Term Care Centre for their care & compassion. Prayers said at 4:00 p.m. and for Parish Prayers said at 6:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Delhi on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Delhi Cemetery. Donations to the Delhi Long Term Care Centre (Resident Activity Fund) will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
