In Loving Memory

KATHLEEN (KATHY) JONES (nee Lannoo) passed away Sunday May 7, 2023 at the age of 71.  She will be forever missed by her life partner and best friend Keith Freeland, by her sisters Rosemary Jamieson, Marleen Warne (Tom), Marie Lannoo (Danny), her brother Marc Lannoo (Rasa) and her sister-in-law Karen Freeland. Many words come to mind in describing Kathy.  She was kind, generous, caring, loyal, fun loving and dedicated to her family with whom she shared a close relationship. She will be fondly remembered as “Aunt Kathy” to her nieces and nephews Mark Warne (Lianne), Vanessa Warne, Nathan Jamieson (Amanda), Rebecca Jamieson (Kyle), Max Shapiro and Cal Shapiro (Sylvie) and her great nieces and great nephews Ben Karmazyn, Zoe Karmazyn Warne, Will Warne, Avery Jamieson, Brooke Jamieson, Alice Villeneuve and Adeline Tellier Shapiro. She will be missed by her aunt and uncle Maurice and Irma Vanlerberghe. She is pre-deceased by her parents Marcel and Paula Lannoo, her uncle Dan Vanlerberg and her brother-in-law Robert (Rob) Jamieson. She shared her zest for life with her family and friends.  Her family, especially her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, will miss her holiday décor, her sumptuous spreads of food and desserts, all made by her of course, her laughter and her infusion of fun.  She remembered every birthday or special event and left her memorable stamp on each one over the years. There was never a birthday, a Christmas or an Easter without gifts or treats from Aunt Kathy or a phone call and card in the mail. She loved cooking and baking (a talent which she shared with her mother Paula), gardening, jewelry designing, dogs and travel. She could put together the most fabulous flower arrangements from annuals and perennials in her elaborate garden.  In the summer, her deck was adorned with colorful hanging baskets and overflowing planters. She designed and created many beautiful jewelry pieces which will now become even more cherished by her family and friends.   Kathy loved dogs and took every opportunity to dog sit.  All of her canine pals knew where she hid the treats! Her love of creating was only matched by her love of travelling and exploring other parts of the globe.  After retiring, Kath and Rosemary enjoyed several Caribbean cruises, trips to Europe and Australia, as well as vacations in Hawaii.  Her bags were always packed! Kathleen was a dedicated and innovative teacher and a gifted musician. Her students and colleagues in the Brant Haldimand Norfolk District Catholic school board, who were fortunate enough to have her as a teacher and a partner, will remember her energy and involvement. She coached teams, shared her musical talents by training choirs to perform, often accompanying them on her guitar, ran fundraisers, and shared her creative talents with students through her innovative art lessons. Kathy and Keith enjoyed doing so many things together.  In the summer, they loved spending time on their boat, most recently the KitKat, cruising the shoreline of Lake Erie, crossing the lake to favorite destinations stateside or fishing.  She was a dependable first mate and could reel in a big fish with the best of them. In the winter, they got out their snowmobiles and headed north to find the trails.  Kath spent many hours with Keith in his shop helping him with his mechanical projects and enjoying car shows or cruising in one of their many vehicles. They enjoyed spending time with their friends who were always welcome at their home. Kathy was a big hearted, generous, truly wonderful person. We are so fortunate to have had her in our lives. Heartfelt thanks to nurses Caitlyn and Corry for their compassionate care, to her care coordinator Leanne and to Dr. Bak. “Wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a trail of beautiful memories”. Kathy is going where the lake is smooth and the trail goes on forever. We love you Kath and will always miss you. As per Kathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations in her honor can be made at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) to the charity of your choice and will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
