Obituary of Arthur Sayer

In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Mr. Arthur Sayer of Delhi, at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe after a very brief illness on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, just two weeks shy of his 103rd birthday. Dad immigrated to Canada from England, at the age of three, with his parents, Ted and Jenny Sayer. He grew up in Walsingham. In 1941 at the age of 21, he joined the Army and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Italy and Holland. While on leave in England, he met the love of his life, Edith Masheter. They married on January 19, 1946, just a few weeks before he was shipped back to Canada. Edith followed, as a war bride, in July. Dad worked at Union Gas Company for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a Proud Member for 75 years of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #125, Delhi.  Also a Mason for over 65 years with the Three Great Lights Lodge No. 104, A.F. & A.M, Delhi, where he was Past Master 50 years ago. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed barbequing, gardening and watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays play baseball. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family & friends. Loving father of Linda Donaldson (George), John Sayer (Carol) and Laurie Ferraro (Vince). He was the proud grandfather of Greg (Lisa), Bryan (Sabrina), Andrew (Amanda), Matthew and Emily (Richard). Dad took great joy in spending time with his great grandchildren, Jenson, Ewan, Olivia, Gavin, Meadow and Forrest. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edith (2009), by his son Bobby (2016) and by his great grandson, Preston (2017). Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) for visitation on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Royal Canadian Legion, Veteran Service at 7:30 p.m. will be followed by a Masonic Memorial Service. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ted Smith officiating. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Lynedoch. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #125, Delhi; Evergreen Cemetery Fund or Charity of your Choice will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
