Mrs. Dorothy Etwell of Simcoe passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Friday, March 25, 2022 in her 98^th year. In her younger years Mom drove in stock car races until the day there was a bad accident. Our Dad was so upset about what could happen to her he asked her to stop. Mom never went anywhere without a hat. People recognized her by her hats. Some called her "The Hat Lady". Mom was a very special, generous lady and was respected and loved by all who knew her. She was always there to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it, especially family. Her family was her passion in life. She loved us all and we all loved her. She willingly gave advice when asked but never intruded in situations involving disputes. Former Dorothy Bernice Cook. Beloved wife for over 50 years of the Late George Ernest (Snooky) Etwell (1993) and cherished friend of the Late Daniel Verhaeghe (2009). Loving mother of Norman Etwell (Helen) and their children: Melanie Lamb (Sean), Tracey Etwell (Ian) and Mark Etwell; Charlotte Field (Robert) and her children: Tim Stewart (Tracy), Clifford Stewart Jr. and Tammy Stewart-Evelyn and Gail Etwell and her daughter Lenore O’Brien (Scott). Cherished great-grandmother of 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Eldon Cook (Helen), Lucille “Shelly” Laing (Late Robert), Murray Cook (Carol) and sister-in-law Rose Soucie. Loving aunt and great-aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Harold (Geraldine) Cook and Doris Holway, by her brothers, Alfred (Margaret) Cook, Douglas Watson, Harold Cook Jr., Ron (Sheila) Cook, Gerald (Evelyn) Cook, Donald Cook, Ralph (Dorothy) Cook and Norris Cook. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) for visitation on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Delhi Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
