Obituary of Leon "Lonnie" Verhegghe

Mr. Leon "Lonnie" Verhegghe of Norwich, passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving family at his side, on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in his 68th year. Lonnie was an outstanding Paramedic, with a distinguished career of service for over 40 years in Hamilton and Brant County. Proud Captain of the Norwich Fire Department for 26 years. Devoted NASCAR fan and Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #190 Norwich. Lonnie cherished his friends as he considered them his chosen family. Beloved husband for 43 years of Donna (Ferguson) Verhegghe. Loving father of Angela Godelie (Mike) and his paramedic daughter, Sharla Kokanie (Patti). Cherished grandfather of Brennon, Donovan and Reese and great grandfather of Kolin. Dearest brother of Larry Verhegghe. Also survived by nieces, nephews & in laws. Predeceased by his parents, Leon Verhegghe (2003) and Elsie (Defreyne) Verhegghe (2012). Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 for visitation on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Paramedic Funeral Service will be held at the Norwich Community Centre, 53 Stover Street, Norwich on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ted Smith officiating. Inurnment in Norwich Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Stedman Community Hospice, Brantford or the V.O.N. Sakura House, Woodstock will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
