Obituary of Jean Cheney

In Loving Memory

Mrs. Jean Cheney of Delhi, passed away peacefully at her home in Delhi on Saturday, February 5, 2022 in her 100th year. On March 8th, 1922, a baby girl was born, Hazel Jean Dunkin, on a farm on the outskirts of Delhi. She would become the oldest of four girls, Dorothy (1999), Shirley (2015) and Donna (2007). Together, they would be known as the Dunkin girls. Farm life had given Jean many life values which she carried with her through her days. She was a caring, compassionate, occasionally feisty and always worrisome lady. Jean ventured from the farm and took on jobs such as a housekeeper in Hamilton, a grocery clerk in London, a switchboard operator and a secretary at Quance's Dam in Delhi. In 1947, Jean married her long time sweet heart, Harry (Red) Cheney (2009), and even though they had five children; Ronn (Don), Late Donna-Jean (1953), Dale, Harry and Deana (Rick), that did not slow her down at being a prominent member on the board for the Delhi United Church, an active member of the United Church Women, a member of the Uneedus Class and becoming Grand Deputy of the Fidelity Rebekah Lodge No. 314, Delhi. Jean will be missed by her grandchildren, Adam Cheney (April), Cori McLean (D.J.), Sarah Talley (Jamie), Ryan McLean (Amanda), Melissa Cheney and Melony Cheney and great grandchildren, Anastasia, Triton, Stephen, Addison, Arizona, Ryley and Aryanna. Predeceased by her grandson, Steven Cheney (1990), by her great grandson, Derek Burke (2005).
