Obituary of Jean Vandenberghe

In Loving Memory

Mr. Jean Constant Vandenberghe of Otterville passed away at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 7, 2021 in his 92nd year. Member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Woodstock and formerly of Our Lady of La Salette. Jean had many hobbies and was a talented maker of all things, especially wildlife carvings.  He was born in a farmhouse in Walsingham Township and moved to his parents’ tobacco farm on Odiel Side Road in 1930 (now Hanmer Line) until moving to his Otterville farm when he married in 1956. Jean had a wonderful love of trees. While he loved travelling, his most memorable trip was arriving safely back in Canada in 1939 with his parents after war had been declared. He was a kind and genuine caring person. No matter how busy he was, he always had time. Beloved husband of the Late Julie (VanHooren) Vandenberghe (2015). Much loved father of Maureen Vandenberghe and Mark Vandenberghe. Cherished grandfather and great-grandfather of Summer and Lincoln John. Loved brother in law of Margaret Vandenberghe (Late Andre, 2003), George VanHooren (Late Deanna, 2013) and Mary Jacques (Late Michel, 2017). Also survived by several nieces, nephews and other family members, including god-daughter Michelle Vandenberghe (John) and god-son, John Tulpin. Predeceased by his parents, Eulalie (Crombez) and Odiel Vandenberghe, by his parents-in-law Margaret (Koekuyt) and Henri VanHooren, by his brothers, Daniel (1935) and Andre (2003), and by his brother in law, Andre VanHooren (2009) (Edna VanHooren, 2002). What Jean cherished most in life was friendship and conversation. Thank you to everyone who took the time to indulge this trait in this very kind man – including family, friends, neighbours, all the Care Partner and VON team members and the many medical professionals he encountered. In consideration of the continuing health and safety of our friends and family, a Private Family Funeral Service will take place with Interment in Our Lady of LaSalette Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Donations to La Salette Area Rural Roots or Holy Trinity Church Fund, Woodstock can be made through the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) and will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
