In Loving Memory
Mrs. Karen Smit of Delhi passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family; after a brave 6 year battle with cancer on Sunday, March 22, 2020 in her 66th year. Karen worked as a letter carrier in Delhi for 25 years. She enjoyed her customers and the furry friends she met on her route. She loved her visits with family to Montreal, Parry Sound and the cottage in Turkey Point. Karen had so much fun on her back deck watching birds, squirrels and chipmunks, while visiting with her dear friends and family. Karen especially loved her tea time and long talks with her daughter (Jenny), granddaughter (Hazel) and sister (Lorraine). Karen was very proud of Hazel’s Baptism and it brought her so much joy to share this beautiful day with her loved ones. Former Karen Gail Pierunek. Beloved wife of John Smit of 42 years. Loving mother of Jennifer Smit (Jamie). Cherished grandmother of Hazel Leigh Anne. Dearest sister of Michael Pierunek (Nancy), Vivian Bryant (Wayne) and Loraine McDonald (Late Marty). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister, Cheryl Erhardt (Late Larry). Our special thanks to Dr. Bordeleau and Staff (Juravinski Cancer Centre), Dr. Thorogood and Staff, and the considerate care provided by the C.C.A.C. and all their caring Staff. A special Thank-you to Dan Verbuyst who provided special care to Karen. Dan helped transport Karen to the hospital and safe guards to the house. Making sure Karen was comfortable. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the family wishes to plan a Celebration of Life on a future date. Arrangements have been left in the compassionate care of the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (mfh.care). Memorial Donations to the Delhi Community Health Centre will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
