Mr. George Mayer of Delhi, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the VON Sakura House, Woodstock on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in his 95th year. Growing up on a tobacco farm, George developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for nature and the land. When he wasn’t working in the fields, he loved hunting and fishing, cherishing his time spent at the Twin Oaks hunting cabin alongside family and friends. George was a proud board member at the Delhi German Home for over 30 years. He shared his warm smile and quick wit as a bartender where he connected with people from throughout the community and was often lovingly referred to as "Papa George”. His adventurous spirit, love for nature, energy and kindness will forever be treasured by those who knew him. Beloved husband of the Late Hilda (Meuller) Mayer (1994). Loving father of Larry Mayer and Terry Van Heugten (Willy). Cherished grandfather of Melissa Jones (Greg), Kristin Huyge (John), and Marcie DeBackere (Ryan). Proud great grandfather of Carter, Anna, Henry, Oliver, Sam, Zach and Tommy. Dearest brother of John Mayer Jr. (Betty) and brother in law of Judy Mayer. Also survived by several nieces, nephews & in laws. Predeceased by his brother, Richard Mayer (2016) and by his sister, Eva Rell (2007) (Late Wendell, 1996).  Friends & Family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at the Delhi & District German Home, Delhi on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Private Inurnment in Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial Donations to the VON Sakura House, Woodstock or the Charity of your choice can be made at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) and will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
