In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Randy Lucien Vanden Berghe, of Lynedoch, Norfolk County, Ontario, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the age of 71. Predeceased by his parents, Lucien Vanden Berghe and Elsie Morrow (Kent); as well as brothers Gary (1987) and Reg (2023). Randy leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family & a great many friends, both near and far. He is survived by his lovely daughter Danielle Westlake and his three grandsons. Randy served most of his lifetime in Law Enforcement. Beginning as an undercover Officer with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force for 3 years, he then moved to the City of London Police for 17 years, where he was elevated to Detective Sergeant. For the last 20 years, Randy proudly served Norfolk County as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer, only recently retiring in late May 2026. Hospitality and kindness have always been the hallmark of Randy’s life. With a generous heart, he was always welcoming and friendly to people he would meet. Everyone who knew Randy knew he was deeply social, spending countless hours sharing stories and laughter with friends and family. His weekend “socials” and casual drop-ins were warmly enjoyed by all. Randy loved to travel, whether near or far. His favourite adventures included Tennessee, Cuba, New York City, Jamaica, Belgium, Newfoundland, and even downtown Delhi. Randy cherished history. From discovering ancient arrowheads in freshly unturned Norfolk sandy loam at tobacco planting time or pursuing ownership of classic cars, his passion was clear. His home was adorned with framed news printed history documenting lunar landings, D-Day and 9-11. These historical artworks are the décor at the beautiful Church he called home. As a respected authority on Prehistory America, he uncovered and cherished a vast collection of ancient artifacts and remnants over his lifetime. He loved sharing his experiences with anyone interested in the history of our remarkable part of Canada. Randy always lived by the Golden Rule. Empathy, Fairness. Consistency. “Treat others how you want to be treated”. That was his life in career and friendship. Randy was always so grateful for the many friends and family who supported him through his journey in life. Old or new did not matter. Kindness defined his life’s journey, we all just call him friend. Friends may call at the Delhi United Church, 105 Church Street West, Delhi, for visitation on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service held at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment in Evergreen Cemetery, Lynedoch.
