Obituary of Ernie Helmeczy

Mr. Ernie Michael Helmeczy, at the age of 80; Proud Husband, Father, Dampa, and also known as “the Boss” passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe. Ernie met Frances in 1965 at the Belgium Hall dance club and spent the past 61 years keeping her on her toes. Ernie loved the music of Ronnie Hawkins, classic old cars, barn parties and trips to his Tennessee Cabin & Normandale Cottage. He was known by many as Uncle Relic. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances (Weiler) Helmeczy and their two children, Karrie (John) and Katherine (David). He will be deeply missed by his beloved grandchildren, Avery, Anna, Connor and Ava. Survived by his brother, Joseph Helmeczy (Gloria) as well as several nieces, nephews and in laws. Predeceased by his sister, Eileen Timmins (2017), by his brother-in-law, Bill Timmins (2024) and by his nephew, Jeff Timmins (1992). A Celebration of Life will be held at the Family Farm (346 Charlotteville Road #8, Simcoe) on Saturday August 29, 2026, starting at 1:00 p.m. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Donations to the Juravinski Hospital & Cancer Centre, Hamilton, or the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation can be made at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) and will be sincerely appreciated by the family.
