Obituary of William Elliott
In Loving Memory
Mr. William “Bill” Elliott of Vanessa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in his 101st year. Bill was a lifelong resident of Norfolk County and was passionate about tobacco farming. Even after he retired, he continued to work part time for many years, curing tobacco and in other related roles for neighbours. Bill was proud of his rural upbringing and was the last surviving member of his large family of nine. He was well known for his prodigious memory and enjoyed sharing stories about the past, especially those related to the tobacco industry. Bill could remember minute details of long past events and was the go-to person for family and local history. Faith was important to Bill and throughout his life he was a member of several local Baptist and Presbyterian congregations. In addition to regular holidays throughout Canada, the United States and Spain, Bill was an avid curler. He enjoyed curling with his wife Helen at the Norwich Curling Club and later at the Tillsonburg Curling Club with the Senior Men’s league. He curled three times a week into his late nineties, appreciating not only the game but also the camaraderie at the club. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen Glover (2003). He was a loving father to Noel Elliott (Glenda), Holly Elliott-Develter (David), and Wendy Elliott Juskiewicz (Raymond). Bill was the cherished grandfather of eight grandchildren: Charity (Cory), Cara (Dan), Eric (Jen), Adam (Nicole), Kelly (Quintin), Vanessa (Brandon), Robert (Courtney) and Andrew. He was also a proud great grandfather of Jace, Mia, Trinity, Sophie, Addie, Scarlett, Henry and Claire. Bill was predeceased by his two brothers and six sisters and is survived by several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) for visitation on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Bill Vanderstelt officiating. Interment to follow in Teeterville Cemetery. Donations to the Tillsonburg Multi-Service Centre or a charity of your choice will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
