In Loving Memory
Mrs. Norma Sinden (nee Dierick), formerly of Kelvin, passed away surrounded by her children, at her home at the Chartwell Regency Retirement Residence, Mississauga, on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 in her 96th year. Norma was the beloved wife of the Late Donald Sinden. Loving and devoted mother of Allan Sinden (Colleen), Kathy Fisher (Terry) and Lori O'Donovan (Steve). Dearest sister of Jeanette Walters (Terry). Also survived by nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her two sons, Don Sinden and Ron Sinden, by her brother, Roger Dierick, by her sister Lorraine LaFrance, and brother-in-law Ted LaFrance. Her biggest source of pride was her family, and she spent a life of devotion to all her loved ones, from her parents through to her grandbabies. She was born on Christmas day, and she loved that she was special, on such an already special day. Norma was the eldest child of Jules and Bertha Dierick, and was raised in a farming family in La Salette. In addition to helping on the farm and helping with her younger siblings, she was also a caretaker of the one room McKnight School house, that she attended. She kept this job from childhood up until she was married. When she and Don married, they continued with Tobacco farming until their retirement. Mom fed and boarded the harvest gang for years, on top of lovingly raising her five children, working on the farm, and being an Active Member of the C.W.L. at St. Anthony Daniel’s Church. Not one for idle hands, even in retirement, Norma continued to work picking apples and mushrooms and was even a volunteer at a local hospital. Sunday dinners with the entire family were commonplace, and everyone looked forward to her amazing cooking and baking. When Norma, left the farm, and the rural life that she had known for over 90 years, and moved to Chartwell, she embraced a new chapter and absolutely flourished. She was very well known at Chartwell for her extremely friendly nature, for non-stop walking the neighbourhood and around the halls of the retirement home, and for dancing to the oldies at Friday happy hours. Norma’s closest companion was her daughter Lori, who lives close to the retirement home and took care of both Norma and Don in their retirement years. Lori’s presence in Norma’s life added so much joy and made the transition to city living an adventure rather than something to be feared. The rest of the family always knew that Norma was well cared for and that she never felt alone and are forever grateful.
